Performers including George Michael, Jessie J, Queen guitarist Brian May, Annie Lennox, Tinie Tempah, the Pet Shop Boys and Monty Python member Eric Idle were also spied at the rehearsals for Sunday night’s (August 12) ceremony, which are being held at a Ford car plant in Dagenham.

Lily Allen changes stage name

Lily Allen is changing her stage name to Lily Rose Cooper.

The 27-year-old says she wants to reflect her marriage to Sam Cooper and is working on new material.

A statement from her publicist said: “The singer will now be known as Lily Rose Cooper, the name she already uses on her Twitter account.”

She and property developer Sam Cooper married last year and are expecting another child. The couple already have a 20-month-old daughter, Ethel.

The singer had previously said she was retiring from music and had no plans to make another album after the release of her second, It’s Not Me, It’s You, in 2009.

After making her final performance supporting Muse at Wembley Stadium in September 2010, she announced that she was expecting but miscarried six months into her pregnancy.

Lily Allen went on to launch a fashion line and clothing rental shop with her sister Sarah and then, last year, a record label.

But in June she revealed on Twitter that she had returned to the recording studio to work on new tracks.

In this latest statement Lily said: “It’s great to work at my own pace, with no commitments other than to make music. I’m excited to be heading back into the studio.”

No release date has been set but anything she releases in future will appear under her married name of Lily Rose Cooper.

Madonna in Born This Way, Express Yourself mash-up

Footage from Madonna‘s ‘MDNA’ tour rehearsals has surfaced online, sparking rumours that the singer may be taking jabs at Lady GaGa during her set.

The singer came under scrutiny last year with the release of her single ‘Born this Way’, which some critics claimed sounded far too similar to Madonna’s 1989 hit ‘Express Yourself’.

Gaga dismissed the accusations, saying that claims that the song was based on Madonna’s track were “retarded”.

However, Madonna said of the song: “I thought, ‘What a wonderful way to redo my song’. I mean, I recognised the chord changes. I thought it was… interesting.” She later described Gaga’s music as “reductive” in an interview on Nightline.

In the footage – which is believed to be from rehearsals at the Ramat Gan Stadium, Tel Aviv – the 53-year-old star sings lyrics from ‘Born this Way’ over the music for ‘Express Yourself’. The medley ends with a rendition of ‘She’s Not Me’ from Madonna’s 2008 album Hard Candy.

Some now believe that the ‘Like a Virgin’ singer may be trying to make a dig at GaGa, who recently was forced to cancel a Indonesian concert on her own tour due to threats from religious groups.

The ‘MDNA’ tour launches in Israel on Thursday (May 31). Madonna has yet to comment on the audio.

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb dies, aged 62

Robin Gibb, founding member of the Bee Gees, unveils a plaque honouring the work of the Bee Gees at 67 Brook Street, central London

Bee Gees’ singer Robin Gibb has died following a lengthy battle with cancer, his family have said.

British-born Gibb, 62, had been battling colon and liver cancer.

Gibb’s musical career began when he formed the Bee Gees with his brothers Barry and Maurice in 1958.

The group is among the biggest-selling groups of all time with hits spanning six decades including Stayin’ Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Massachusetts and Night Fever.

In a statement, Gibb’s family said they were announcing his death with “great sadness”.

Broadcaster Paul Gambaccini described the singer as “one of the major figures in the history of British music”.

The Beegees notched up record sales of more than 200 million since their first hits in the 1960s.

‘Monumental accomplishments’

“Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music,” said Gambaccini.

“Their accomplishments have been monumental.

“Not only have they written their own number one hits, but they wrote huge hit records for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Destiny’s Child, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, the list goes on and on.

“What must also be said is Robin had one of the best white soul voices ever. He was singing lead on his first number one when he was 17, that was Massachusetts.”

‘With sadness’

Gibb’s family said in a statement: “The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery.

“The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Gibb’s twin brother and band partner Maurice died in 2003 at the age of 53 following complications from a twisted intestine.

Last month, the singer fell into a coma after contracting pneumonia but a week later he regained consciousness.

Gibb’s son Robin-John said at the time: “They (doctors) gave him an under 10% survival chance and he has beaten the odds… he really is something else.”

The singer was diagnosed with cancer of the colon after having surgery on his bowel 18 months ago for an unrelated condition.

He was later diagnosed with cancer of the liver, and underwent chemotherapy and surgery.
